No fewer than 1,200 delegates from accredited faculties/colleges of Pharmacy across 26 Nigerian Universities on Monday converged at Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), in Edo state to brainstorm on the Pharmacy profession and studies.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the week-long 47th National Convention with theme, "PharmacoGovernance: The pharmacist and politics; Play or be played", organised by Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students (PANS), Vice Chancellor, IUO, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, tasked the students on commitment to excellence in their academics.

Ezemonye, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Raphael Adeghe expressed optimism that the pharmacy students are key stakeholders in the future of the country especially in delivering quality healthcare services to Nigerians particularly as the country advocates for a better pharmacy practice as well as better healthcare system.

"The objective of this National convention amongst others, is to promote and encourage mutual inter-relationship and interaction amongst Pharmacy students in Nigeria.

It is also intended to provide a platform for cooperation with pharmaceutical organisations in Nigeria and elsewhere in formulating ideas and policies aimed at promoting the image of the Pharmacy profession in general and the Pharmacists in particular."Ezemonye said.
In his remark, Dean College of Pharmacy, Igbinedion University Okada(IUO), Prof. Ighodaro Igbe noted that the Pharmacy profession is a thriving career globally and charged the students to be hardworking to reach the zenith of their career.
"Presently, Nigeria has 26 accredited Faculties of Pharmacy and these faculties have demonstrated an enviable reputation for training students and producing graduates with great prospects of practicing in different fields such as academia, hospital, industries, administration, research and in other human endeavours." Igbe said.

According to Igbe, over 1,200 delegates from accredited faculties cut across 26 universities, both federal, state and private tertiary institutions are participating in the 47th National Convention hosted by Igbinedion University Okada.
In his speech, National President Pharmaceutical Association of Nigeria Students (PANS), Comrade Uchagwu Christian lauded the management of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) for hosting the 47th convention and many other support from the institution particularly the warm reception accorded the members of the association.
