IGIBNEDION UNIVERSITY COLLABORATES WITH NEWCASTLE AERODROME
Igbinedion University- Nigeria’s Premier Private University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Newcastle Aerodrome, Ireland, to begin a pilot certification programme.
The Vice Chancellor Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, signed on behalf of Igbinedion University.
Igbinedion University is currently collaborating with the Newcastle Aerodrome, Ireland in the area of training and certification of students in piloting skills. Newcastle Aerodrome she said, is the only piloting Academy in Ireland that keeps 24 hour operation.
Earlier, a representative of the Newcastle Aerodrome, Dublin, Ms Brienze Lawrence had visited Igbinedion University to inspect the facilities on ground for the take off of the IUO Aviation certification programme.
Miss Lawrence said the idea behind the collaboration between the two institutions was for students to do the theoretical training in Igbinedion University, Okada, Nigeria, and then move over to ireland for the practical training.
According to her, the Chief Executive Officer of the Newcastle Aerodrome, John Newgent is very passionate about the immediate commencement of the project, saying that she was very satisfied about the facilities on ground for the Centre.
According her,” I am very impressed that all the facilities are in place and co-ordination will be very easy”.
Miss Lawrence stated that a team of top management of the Newcastle Aerodrome will again be visiting in August to fine-tune the logistics to herald the commencement of the Centre.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye welcoming Miss Lawrence to Igbinedion University, noted that the Hon. Chancellor, the Deputy Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council were kept abreast of her visit and had sent their good wishes.
He recalled that Igbinedion University is Nigeria’s Premier Private University established since 1999, and maintains three campuses in Okada, the Headquarters of Ovia-North Local Government Area.
Professor Ezemonye stated that the Hon. Chancellor was very passionate about the project and looks forward to the crystallization of the project.
Miss Lawrence later visited the old Okada Air Hanger in Benin Airport to assess herself the state of the hanger.
