Strategic Tax reforms will reposition Nigeria in the Global space; Dame Gladys Olajumoke Simplice assures.

The leadership of The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria has stated that   strategic Tax reforms vis a vis strict compliance to tax laws will position Africa and Nigeria in particular in the Global space.

The statement was made by the 14th President/ Chairman of Council, The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CITN) during the institute’s 3^rd 3days annual international academic conference on taxation organized in collaboration with Igbinedion University Okada, with the theme: TAXATION, SOCIAL CONTRACT AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

The president said that ” it’s agreeable that no nation can achieve development in the absence of adequate revenue to fund it’s programmes and projects. However, sustainable and adequate revenue mobilization is a function of ab effective tac system”.

Dame Gladys Simplice FCTI, noted that paper presentations by erudite scholars conference will address possible remedies to challenges inherent in the tax system”

The annual conference which was held both physically and virtually via Zoom was declared open by the Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye PhD, FAS who was ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Deborah.O. Odejimi.

In his Keynote address which was delivered by Prof. Mrs Odejimi, Prof Ezemonye remarked that the importance of taxation in the growth and development of any nation cannot be overemphasized, as the it’s the springboard that can make a nation stand out among her equals. He expressed joy that such a renowned institute as the CITN would find I.U.O worthy to host the 3rd annual International academic conference.

The Vice-Chancellor also used the medium to shower encomium on the CITN council for being gender sensitive, by electing a lady as the head of the professional body..

The conference also featured *paper presentations by erudite scholars as well as presentation of awards and certificates.
