Igbinedion University Okada in its bid to re-position its administration for global competitiveness especially in the post-Covid-19 era has concluded a 3day retreat for Members of its Governing Council, Principal Officers, Provost, Deans, Directors and Heads of Units.
The retreat with the Theme: “Charting the Way for Global Competitiveness” was declared open by the Honorable Chancellor of the University, Sir, Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion CFR.
In his opening address, the Chancellor described the timing of the retreat as significant especially during the Covid-19 lockdown. He noted that the last retreat in the University held Twelve years ago and would like to see the retreat hold annually henceforth. He therefore thanked the Governing Council, the Vice-Chancellor and his team for putting this year’s retreat together while expressing optimism that the retreat would foster a sense of community among stakeholders, produce a refocused workforce with improved productivity, propel greater bonding and team building with new perspectives that promotes shared values.
The three-day retreat featured ten sessions of paper presentations which was chaired by erudite scholars, technocrats and time tested Resources Managers including Former Executive Governor of Edo State- Chief Dr. Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion; Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development- Professor Sheik Ahmed Abdullah OON; former Director-General of the National Energy Commission of Nigeria- Prof. Sanni Sambo OON, Former Chief-Medical-Director (CMD) University College Hospital, Ibadan- Professor Abiodun Ilesanmi and Former Registrar, University of Benin- Lady Cerelina Ojomo all of whom are members of Igbinedion University Governing Council.
Speakers at the retreat include; Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, Ph.D, FAS, Vice-Chancellor Igbinedion University Okada; Mrs. A.O. Oshodin, Immediate Past Registrar, University of Benin; Professor Famous Izedonmi, Professor of Accounting, University of Benin; Professor Iguodala W.A. from the University of Benin; Professor Mora Tijani, Chairman Pharmacist Council of Nigeria, Abuja; Professor Eddy Eriagbe, former Dean, Student Affairs, University of Benin and Dr. Akanimo Odon of Lancaster University, United Kingdom.
