The newly renamed Okada Microfinance Bank, formerly ABC Microfinance Bank, officially reopened during a lively Stakeholders’ Townhall Meeting held at the Okada town hall on Tuesday. This marks a significant step for the bank, which was originally founded in 1995 as Okada Community Bank, renamed in 2007, and now returns to its roots amidst a commitment to serving the local community.

The town hall meeting aimed to sensitize community members about the bank’s new developments and reaffirm its dedication to safeguarding their finances while prioritizing their interests. The bank’s managing director emphasized that Okada Microfinance Bank is a grassroots institution focused on meeting the needs of local businesses and facilitating their growth.

In a major announcement, the managing director, Dr. Timothy Ogbebor introduced the bank’s new electronic banking platform, describing it as a “paradigm shift in community banking.” This innovation promises to enhance accessibility and convenience for the bank’s customers.

Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, Ph.D., FAS, Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, opened the event with words of appreciation for the elders and members of the Okada community, acknowledging their unwavering support for the university over the past 25 years. He reiterated the university’s commitment to community-driven projects aimed at fostering a harmonious relationship between the institution and the surrounding community.

Pa. Idehen, who represented the Odionwere of Okada Community, encouraged attendees to continue supporting the bank, highlighting its community-driven focus. He noted that since its inception, the bank has relied on the support of local elders and community members, who have played a pivotal role in promoting its services to neighbouring communities.

The event featured an engaging question-and-answer session, allowing customers and prospective clients to seek clarifications and provide feedback to the bank’s authorities.

The reopening ceremony was well-attended, with management representatives from Igbinedion University, Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, and other key stakeholders from the community present, underscoring the collaborative spirit between the bank and the local populace.

As Okada Microfinance Bank embarks on this new chapter, it aims to strengthen its ties with the community and ensure that it remains a vital resource for local financial needs.
