Igbinedion University Okada, Celebrates 7th White Coat Ceremony

Igbinedion University Okada, Nigeria’s premier private university, on Wednesday held it’s  Seventh White Coat Ceremony for the 400- Level MBBS students of the Class of 2024/2025. The event, which took place at the University’s Library Conference Hall, marked a significant milestone as the students transitioned from pre-clinical to clinical studies in their medical education.

Highlight of the event was the ceremonial dressing of the students in their white medical coats by the Chief Medical Director of Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ya’u Abubakar Gagarawa, along with Guest Lecturer Dr. Chinwe Muomalu and principal officers of the University. Following the donning of their coats, the students subscribed to a relevant oath, pledging to uphold the principles of integrity and professionalism in their future medical careers.

Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Dominic Osaghae, who welcomed parents and guests, explained that the White Coat Ceremony symbolizes a crucial transition in the students’ medical education.

Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University Okada, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, expressed pride in the students’ dedication to the field of medicine. He highlighted the ceremony as a rite of passage that signifies the beginning of their clinical training and reinforces the core values of the medical profession.

In her lecture titled “Why Did I Choose to Become a Doctor?”, the Guest Lecturer Dr. Chinwe Muomalu, who is also the Medical Director and Founder of Cradle and Mom Specialist Hospital, Owerri, emphasized the importance of devotion and resilience in the pursuit of their dreams of becoming medical doctors, guiding the students through the healthcare value chain, inspiring them to remain committed to their studies.

The Seventh White Coat Ceremony of Igbinedion University Okada was not only a celebration of academic achievements but also a reaffirmation of the students’ commitment to excellence in the medical field.
