Igbinedion University, Okada, has achieved a historic milestone with the launch of its paint production initiative, marking a significant step toward financial sustainability. This announcement was made by Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye during the university’s 26th matriculation ceremony, where approximately 1,500 new students were welcomed. The paint production unit complements the university’s existing enterprises, including a water factory, bakery, palm oil mill, and fishery operations. Prof. Ezemonye expressed optimism that these ventures will contribute to the institution’s financial sustainability. In addition to the paint initiative, the Vice Chancellor revealed that the university has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce several postgraduate programs. These include:
– Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in Medical Laboratory Science
– Ph.D. in Nursing Science
– Ph.D. in Mass Communication
Prof. Ezemonye stated that this approval is a testament to the university’s commitment to academic excellence and a boost to its growth trajectory. The university has also partnered with the Chinese government to enhance entrepreneurship and educational technology. As part of this collaboration, two staff members and 18 students have been invited to Jiangxi College of Foreign Studies for courses focused on innovation, entrepreneurship, and cultural hybridisation. During the matriculation ceremony, a historic moment was marked when Farmer Ogbole Samson, an esteemed alumnus of the Department of Biochemistry, delivered the matriculation lecture. Samson, Team Lead of Eupepsia Place Limited, Farm City, Awowo, Ogun State, embodies the innovative spirit and entrepreneurial drive that Igbinedion University fosters.
In his remarks, Samson Ogbole encouraged the new students to face challenges with confidence and resilience, saying, “Never entertain fear in your attitude to challenges that will come your way.”
Prof. Ezemonye urged the new students to approach their studies with dedication and seriousness, while Chief Gabriel Igbinedion, the university’s Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Chancellor, His Excellency Chief Dr. Lucky Igbinedion, a former two-term executive Governor of Edo State, congratulated the students on their admission and encouraged them to seize the opportunity to realise their full potential.
