

The SWARM project, co-funded by the European Union and centred on Collaboration, Sustainability, and Education, officially kicked off on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the University of Johannesburg, bringing together a diverse and passionate team dedicated to sustainable waste management across South Africa and Nigeria.
Igbinedion University Okada, a key partner in the project, participated in this kick-off meeting, which began with insightful introductions led by its Team Lead, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, FAS.
The meeting included a welcome speech from Prof. Daniel Masho, University of Johannesburg, and a detailed progress report from Prof. Maria Loizidou, the Project Coordinator, who outlined the progress on Work Package 6, sparking engaging discussions on solutions for sustainable waste management.
Igbinedion University is strategically positioned to engage in all the work packages (WP1, WP2, WP3, WP4, WP5, and WP6).
Experts shared valuable insights on waste management systems and building sustainable hubs in HEIs.
The day concluded with a productive consortium discussion, ensuring that the SWARM project is off to a great start!
