APWEN Delegation Secures University Backing for New IUO Collegiate Chapter

In a significant step towards advancing women in engineering, a delegation from the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Benin Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the management of Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), to finalize plans for the inauguration of its new collegiate chapter.

The delegation was led by the Chairman of APWEN Benin Chapter, Engr. (Mrs.) Oby Obeta, MNSE, and included the Staff Coordinator for the IUO chapter, Engr. Dr. (Mrs.) Maryann O. Ezugwu, FNSE, alongside student representatives from the College of Engineering.

The primary objective of the visit was to formally seek the university’s approval for the upcoming inauguration ceremony of the APWEN IUO Collegiate Chapter. The team also used the opportunity to promote APWEN’s core mission of encouraging, enhancing, and empowering female engineering students to achieve academic and professional excellence.

The Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence I. Ezemonye, FAS, who also serves as the Chairman of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors, warmly received the delegation. In his response, he commended APWEN for its laudable initiative and gave a firm pledge of the university’s continuous support for programs aimed at advancing women in the field of engineering.

Discussions during the meeting highlighted key areas of collaboration, including mentorship, fostering academic excellence, and supporting the professional development of female engineering students at IUO.

The engagement concluded on a high note with a group photograph and expressions of mutual appreciation. The successful visit has set a positive and collaborative tone for the forthcoming inauguration ceremony of the APWEN IUO Collegiate Chapter.
