Igbinedion University Begins 2026 with Special Senate Prayer Session.

Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), Nigeria’s premier private university, ushered in the new year with its annual special Senate prayer session held on Thursday at the Library Conference Centre on campus.

The event brought together members of the University’s Senate, senior management, and staff in a solemn gathering to commit the institution’s activities for 2026 into God’s hands, seeking divine guidance and blessings for continued academic excellence and growth.

Rev. Fr. Godwin Ibe delivered the homily, drawing from the Gospel reading in John 15:1-8. He emphasized the importance of such prayer sessions for the institution’s physical and spiritual well-being.

“This institution has continued to produce great fruits because it is rooted in Christ, the source of all things good,” Rev. Fr. Ibe said. He urged Senate members to remain committed to advancing education, describing it as essential for shaping society positively.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, PhD, FAS commended the annual tradition as a cornerstone of the University’s values.

“This prayer session reinforces our foundational commitment to holistic development, blending academic rigor with moral and spiritual grounding,” Prof. Ezemonye stated. “As we step into 2026, we trust in divine providence to guide our efforts in producing graduates who will make meaningful contributions to nation-building and global progress. Events like this remind us that true success is rooted in faith and service.”

The session included intercessory prayers for the university community, students, staff, and the nation at large. It forms part of IUO’s longstanding tradition of integrating spiritual reflection into its administrative and academic calendar.
