Biography

Chief Dr Charles Uwensuyi-Edosomwan, SAN, is a distinguished Nigerian legal practitioner and a former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Edo State. A prominent member of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) pioneer law class, he holds LL.B, LL.M, and Ph.D. degrees, and was conferred with the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in 2000, becoming the first UNIBEN graduate to achieve this honor.
In his private practice, he is the Managing Partner of Uwensuyi-Edosomwan & Co (also known as Ekikhalo Chambers), a firm specializing in a broad range of areas including commercial law, intellectual property, oil and gas, and constitutional litigation. Beyond the courtroom, he holds the traditional title of Obasuyi of Benin Kingdom and serves as a legal advisor to the Oba of Benin, notably participating in high-level agreements for the repatriation of the Benin Bronzes.Chief Edosomwan remains an active leader in professional and academic circles. In May 2025, he was elected President of the Lagos branch of the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA). He is also recognized for his extensive mentorship of younger lawyers and his frequent contributions to legal scholarship through lectures and publications on contemporary banking law and constitutional issues.
