IGBINEDION UNIVERSITY LAW STUDENT SECURES TOP 3 POSITION AT RED BULL BASEMENT NIGERIA 2026 NATIONAL FINAL

Osaze Cole, a 300 level Law student of Oba Erediauwa College of Law, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) and Director of Community Service at the University’s Student Representative Council, has emerged among the Top 3 winners at the Red Bull Basement Nigeria 2026 National Final.

Cole’s achievement comes after a highly competitive selection process that attracted over 3,000 applications from student innovators and young founders across Nigeria. The national final, held on April 5, 2026, in Lagos, featured five top finalists who pitched their ideas live before a distinguished panel of judges from Nigeria’s tech, innovation, and business ecosystem.

Cole’s venture, Mercoracle, is an export-tech platform designed to empower smallholder farmers with direct access to global markets. The solution addresses critical challenges in agricultural exports by simplifying international legal compliance, documentation, and trade processes. It also incorporates on-site crop analysis and testing capabilities, dramatically reducing testing costs from approximately ₦60,000–70,000 to just ₦2,000–3,000 per test. By removing these bottlenecks, Mercoracle aims to increase farmers’ incomes, promote non-oil exports, and strengthen Nigeria’s position in international agricultural trade.

The podium finish marks a significant milestone for Igbinedion University, Nigeria’s premier private University, which is traditionally known for its strength in law and related disciplines. Cole’s success highlights the growing culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among IUO students and their capacity to tackle real-world economic challenges facing Africa.

Red Bull Basement is a global initiative by Red Bull that supports student founders in developing technology-driven solutions to pressing problems. Participants receive mentorship, Microsoft Azure credits, and resources to scale their ventures, with national winners advancing to the international stage.

This result further demonstrates the vibrancy of Nigeria’s youth innovation ecosystem and the increasing focus on agritech and export solutions as drivers of economic diversification beyond oil.
