Biography
Prof Ife Adewumi joined the Department of Civil Engineering recently (February 2026) as a Visiting Professor. Ife was previously at the Redeemer’s University, Ede (RUN) where he taught and held administrative positions including as Dean until end of August 2025. He nurtured the graduation of the pioneer students in Civil Engineering Department at RUN. He was for greater part of his teaching career at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife where he obtained all his four degrees. In 1997-1999, Dr Adewumi led a World Bank/National Agricultural Research Program (NARP) funded project to convert livestock wastes and Municipal Solid Wastes to organic fertilizer. The two major publications from that project has served as Policy material globally and has recently been engaged in another major World Bank funded project , the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) to convert livestock manure from Abattoirs and Piggery Farms into Eco-friendly biogas and biochar (Solid fuels) across the country, He is presently consulting for the Ondo State government under this project that will be executed in 4 major towns of Ondo State this year.
Ife became a Senior Lecturer in 2006 and had over 70 published articles in both local and internation journals, a published textbook and some chapters in other books. He also has a Patent License on production of high-quality carbon adsorbent for water and liquid purification and liquor refinement. From 2005 he was identified as a Resource Person by UNEP and became a Member of the Board of the African Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ARSCP), a body that serves as the Technical Arm to the African Ministerial Council on Environment (AMCEN) through which major UN projects are promoted across Africa. As President of ARSCP in 2014-16, he wrote a proposal to the European Commission for the Waste-to-Wealth Switch Africa Green Program of UNEP that was approved and funded to cover six African countries. Ife interviewed and was successfully assessed for full tenure Professorship at the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce island, Bayelsa State in 2012. He has taught in both public and private Universities in Nigeria including Covenant University, Ota where he supervised two PhD graduates (2011) both who are now Professors of Environmental Engineering, He has served as an External Examiner and Assessor for Professorial Appointment to some Universities including University of Ibadan, Osun State University, Osogbo; Air Force Institute of Technology, Kaduna, Niger Delta University, Bayelsa State, Rivers State University, Port Harcourt in particular. He has also delivered invited lectures within and outside Nigeria, including at the University of Botswana, Gaborone.
Ife is married to Prof Mrs Adejoke Adewumi of Ekiti State University and they are blessed with both biological and social children.
