Dr. Osazee Ekundayo Izevbuwa is a Nigerian medical microbiologist, academic researcher, and certified medical laboratory scientist with extensive expertise in virology, infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, forensic microbiology, and public health research. He currently serves as Lecturer I in the Department of Biological Sciences at Igbinedion University and as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital. Dr. Izevbuwa obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Medical Microbiology (Virology) from University of Benin in 2025 after previously earning a Master of Science degree in Medical Microbiology with Distinction from Benson Idahosa University. He also holds a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science degree with First Class Honours from Igbinedion University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from Madonna University.
An accomplished scholar, Dr. Izevbuwa has contributed significantly to scientific research with numerous peer-reviewed publications in reputable local and international journals. His research interests span rotavirus epidemiology, viral gastroenteritis, antimicrobial resistance, molecular diagnostics, forensic microbiology, environmental microbiology, and infectious disease surveillance. His scholarly works have addressed critical health concerns such as hepatitis viruses, human papillomavirus, multidrug-resistant bacteria, gastrointestinal infections, and zoonotic diseases within Nigerian communities.
Beyond teaching and research, Dr. Izevbuwa has demonstrated strong leadership and administrative competence through active participation in university committees and academic development initiatives. He is the Pioneer Chairman and Chief Editor of the IUO Journal of Natural and Applied Sciences Research (JNASR) and has contributed to institutional growth through service on research, ceremonial, and academic monitoring committees.
Professionally, he is certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology
as an International Medical Laboratory Scientist (IMLS ASCPi) and is affiliated with several reputable professional bodies, including the American Society for Microbiology, European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, West African Society of Toxicology, and the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria. Dr. Izevbuwa’s academic excellence and professional dedication have earned him multiple distinctions and awards, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Best Graduating Student, Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence, and several recognitions for outstanding internship performance in medical laboratory sciences. His commitment to advancing biomedical research, diagnostics, and public health continues to position him as a promising scholar and emerging authority in medical microbiology and infectious disease research in Nigeria and beyond.
