The maiden edition of TEDx Igbinedion University Okada held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the University Library Conference Hall, Main Campus, Okada, bringing together students, academics, innovators and thought leaders for inspiring conversations centered on leadership, innovation and personal development.
The event, themed “Beyond the Shores of Mediocrity,” featured insightful presentations from renowned speakers including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, PhD, FAS, development advocate Chinenye Ebele Onuorah, Ambassador Dr. Smily Mukta and Chisom Rutherford.
Delivering a keynote presentation titled “Digital Intelligence: Leveraging Technology Without Losing Depth,” Prof. Ezemonye challenged participants to embrace technology responsibly while maintaining human values, creativity and intellectual depth. He emphasized that digital advancement should serve humanity rather than diminish critical thinking and meaningful human interaction.
The Vice-Chancellor described digital intelligence as the ability to effectively navigate technological tools without losing the essence of human reasoning, innovation and emotional connection. He urged young people to develop skills that combine technological competence with ethical leadership and purposeful living.
In her presentation titled “Beyond the Shores of Mediocrity: From the Angle of Leadership,” Chinenye Onuorah inspired participants with practical lessons on courage, initiative and transformational leadership. Drawing from her experience during her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in a remote community in Cross River State, she narrated how her intervention in addressing poor healthcare challenges led to sustainable community impact and eventually birthed the Regalo Hope Foundation.
She stressed that true leadership begins when individuals move beyond comfort zones to solve problems and create opportunities for others. According to her, many people remain trapped in mediocrity because of fear and overdependence on familiarity rather than taking bold steps toward change.
The speakers collectively encouraged participants to cultivate leadership, innovation, courage and self-awareness as essential tools for societal transformation. They also emphasized the importance of using knowledge and technology to create lasting impact in communities.
The TEDx event marked another milestone in the university’s commitment to intellectual engagement, innovation and global conversations that empower young people to become solution-driven leaders.
