Nigeria’s Premier Private University, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) and Jiangxi Vocational College of Foreign Studies, China, have signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding, further strengthening educational ties between Nigeria and China.

The agreement was formally signed on Friday, 16 October 2026, in China by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, PhD, FAS, following a recent working visit to China.

The MoU aims to train internationally minded, high-quality technical and skilled talent suited to an era of economic globalisation. It also seeks to advance vocational education cooperation between Chinese and Nigerian institutions and raise the international standing of both partners. The partnership is guided by four principles: joint participation and scientific development, equality and mutual benefit, long-term cooperation, and regular communication.

Key areas of collaboration include the joint development of quality courses, talent training and academic qualification upgrades; co-construction of practice bases; “Chinese + vocational skills” training; the establishment of a Tiangong Workshop (Tiangong College); teacher capacity building; student internships and employment support; cooperative education; cultural and people-to-people exchanges; research transformation; online and offline study programmes; international lectures; mutual visits; and academic advancement. The Chinese institution will also recruit outstanding ASEAN students for further study.

The signing of the MoU adds to the expanding collaboration between Chinese and Nigerian institutions in vocational training, language learning, student mobility and skills development. It reflects a shared effort to equip young people with practical, globally relevant skills.
