Nigeria’s prestigious private institution, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), recently held its Twenty-First Convocation Ceremony, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to higher learning and academic excellence. The ceremony commenced with an enlightening Convocation Lecture titled “The Changing Higher Education Landscape: Implications for Emerging Workplace Dynamics,” delivered by esteemed guest speaker Dr. Felicia Chinwe Mogo, founder and President of the African Marine Environmental Sustainability Initiative and a member of the UN Group of Experts on Marine Environment.

During her lecture, Dr. Mogo emphasised the importance of continuously improving knowledge and skills acquired during their studies as a means to navigate the dynamic nature of the modern workplace. She encouraged the graduates to embrace the evolving landscape and apply their expertise to succeed in their chosen careers.

In his address, the Founder and Chancellor of IUO, Sir Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, represented by the Deputy Chancellor, Chief Lucky Igbinedion, highlighted the university’s dedication to research, innovation, and the pursuit of excellence. The convocation was a testament to IUO’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for educational advancement.

The Vice-Chancellor of IUO, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, PhD, FAS,extended a warm welcome to parents and guests attending the ceremony. He regarded the convocation as a significant milestone in the university’s journey, noting that newly accredited programmes by the Nigerian University Commission and relevant professional bodies had already commenced, further enhancing the university’s offerings.

Professor Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, urged the new graduates to be exemplary ambassadors of IUO, inspiring others through their achievements and contributions to society.

The ceremony also featured the valedictory speech delivered by the best graduating student on behalf of the graduates from the 2022–2023 academic session. This inspiring address celebrated the collective achievements of the graduating class and highlighted their potential to excel in various fields.

A notable highpoint of the event was the induction of graduates into the IUO Alumni Association, cementing their lifelong connection to the university. Additionally, outstanding graduates were recognised and presented with prizes for their exceptional academic performance and notable contributions during their studies.
