Igbinedon University VC urges climate change campaign

The Vice Chancellor Igbinedion University, Okada, Prof. Lawrence Ezimonye, has challenged stakeholders in the environment and government at all levels to carryout aggressive campaign to curb adverse effects of climate change.

Ezemonye said this yesterday at the institution during screening of a film titled “Sallow: Food Security in Nigeria’s Climate Change”, organised by Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation as part of efforts towards sensitizing people on climate change.

He said the adverse effect of climate change, if not collective tackled, posed a great danger to the nation’s food security.

He said flooding, desertification, among others, had made inhabitants of environment vulnerable to adverse effects.
On his part, the Director, Policy Initiative, Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Foundation, Amara Nwankpa, said film was to expose the challenges the nation was facing in terms of food security due to climate change.

He said: “The programme is to stimulate policy solution to the Nigeria security challenges because  climate change has prominent and irreversible impact on Nigeria’s food security. We believe that there are solutions now that need to be popularized.”
