Precaution and Prevention

Incidentally, the recommended precautions for the two ailments are similar maybe also because the two diseases are caused primarily by contact with animals such as rat, bat and other form of vectors.

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include :

  1. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-base hand rub if your hands are not visibly dirty
  2. When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with alcohol-base hand rub or soap and water.
  3.  Thoroughly cook food items including meat and eggs.
  4. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.
  5. Avoid eating and touching rat and bushmeats including bat.
  6. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth because you can transfer the virus from contaminated surface to yourself.
  7. If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early.

Protect yourself and others from getting sick.

Signed.
