The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye received a two man delegation from Huawei Technologies Nig. Ltd in his office on Friday 20th July 2018.
The Huawei Team comprised of the Channel Service Project Manager of the Company, Mr. Francis Anyaebosi and Mr. Sam Wang the Training Manager. Also in attendance were some Principal Officers of the University; the Registrar Mr. Edwin Okoro, the Bursar, Mr. Nosa Edogiaweire (FCA).
After a brief introduction of guest and members of University Management in attendance, the Channel Service Project Manager of Huawei spoke on behalf of the company. He thanked the VC for the warm reception and expressed the company’s readiness to partner with the University in advancing training research and upgrading of ICT manpower and technological/infrastructures, in the University.
He particularly offered University the HUAWEI HAINA program which involves training the trainers who will in turn train others in the University. He said the program apart from being an employment catalyst to students will be a solid IGR for the University.
Mr. Anyaebosi further informed that there are incentives to the overall Best Student of each training session and that such incentive including an all expense paid trip to China plus empowerment to advance in ICT career.
He also intimated the Vice-Chancellor that the University will also benefit from the training program including monetary benefit of one thousand dollars for the University and five hundred dollars for every certified student.
In his response, the VC heartily welcomed the team. He reiterated that IUO is a University of class, Legacy trending University and a University where stars go to school. He quickly informed the HUAWEI Team of Master Awani Vincent Esimaje, a 100 Level Law Student of the University who is trending as the designer of the Nigeria’s Super Eagles Ceremonial attire popularly begin referred to as “Aso-Ebi” which won the best Ceremonial attire at the opening Ceremony of the just concluded FIFA Russia 2018 World Cup Tournament.
The Vice-Chancellor agreed with the HUAWEI Team that ICT rules the World and that every investment in the development of human capital in that direction is needed and desirable.
He therefore assured the HUAWEI Team of the University’s readiness to partner and participate fully in all of the offers of HUAWEI. He expressed his eagerness to receive an MOU from the company which he assures will be treated with the urgency that it deserves. The meeting ended with a group photograph.
