IGBINEDION UNIVERSITY LECTURER HONOURED WITH DR. AHMAD TAHIR PUBLIC SERVICE AWARD AT NAICE 2026 IN LAGOS

Engr. Dr. Oby P. Obeta, Head of the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Igbinedion University, Okada, has been conferred with the prestigious Dr. Ahmad Tahir Public Service Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the petroleum engineering profession, engineering education, and public service.

The award was presented on Wednesday, 5 August 2026, during the official awards ceremony of the 2026 Nigerian Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE 2026), organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council. The event took place at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.

NAICE 2026 was held under the theme “Driving Energy Sustainability Through Technology, Policy, and People.” The conference brought together distinguished leaders from the petroleum and energy industry, academia, government, and professional bodies. It featured keynote presentations, technical paper sessions, panel discussions, exhibitions, networking opportunities, and student-focused programmes aimed at advancing sustainable energy development in Nigeria and beyond.

Dr. Obeta was recognized for her exceptional public service, leadership, and sustained contributions to the petroleum engineering profession, engineering education, student development, and dedicated service to the Society of Petroleum Engineers. The award also acknowledged other deserving professionals who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of the engineering profession through exemplary service and leadership.

The Dr. Ahmad Tahir Public Service Award was instituted by the SPE Nigeria Council to honour individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to public service, professional excellence, leadership, mentorship, and the advancement of the petroleum and energy industry. It seeks to celebrate outstanding service to the engineering profession while encouraging continued dedication to national and professional development.
