Igbinedion University Okada recently hosted its 25th Matriculation Ceremony, a grand event filled with inspiration and promise for the future. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, set the tone by urging the over 1,500 matriculating students to foster intellectual curiosity, embrace diversity, and uphold mutual respect within the university community.
The ceremony, held on Saturday, February 24th, at the university’s main auditorium, marked the beginning of a transformative journey for the newest members of the institution. Prof. Ezemonye highlighted the university’s dedication to providing a conducive environment for all to thrive and pursue their aspirations, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset essential for navigating the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing world.
A special tradition was upheld as the Vice-Chancellor christened the 2024 set of matriculates as the “Silvers,” symbolising the university’s Silver Jubilee and signifying the students’ unique connection to the institution’s history. Prof. Ezemonye emphasised the importance of balancing academics, extracurricular activities, and social life to achieve academic excellence, with initiatives like master classes and the Career Enhancement and Resilience Training (CERT) programme enhancing students’ practical skills.
The event also featured a thought-provoking lecture by guest speaker Mr. Darlington Onyeagoro, Founder/CEO of Aladdin Digital Bank, Lagos, who encouraged students to unleash their creativity and leverage innovation in a digital world. The matriculation ceremony culminated in the introduction of students by college deans, recognition of academic excellence, and the awarding of cash prizes to winners of the Skills and Entrepreneurship Programme.
The atmosphere was electric as matriculating students, along with their parents and guardians, celebrated this significant milestone with joy and pride, embodying the spirit of excellence and innovation that defines Igbinedion University Okada.
