Igbinedion University, on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the university’s library complex, Conference Hall, organised a one-day workshop on the implementation of the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) themed “REVIEW OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CCMAS FOR OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE.”.
Speaking during the event, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, PhD, FAS, said that the Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) are designed for the education and training of undergraduate students wishing to obtain first degrees in the different areas of administration and management science in the Nigerian University System.
He stated that CCMAS is expected to guide institutions in the design of curricula for their administration and management programs by stipulating the minimum requirements. Being such, institutions are encouraged to take due cognisance of the CCMAS while bringing necessary innovation to the content and delivery of their programs towards achieving the overall goal of administration and management science education and training in the country.
According to the University Don, Igbinedion University has over the years been a vanguard for innovation and delivery of qualitative education amongst private tertiary institutions in Nigeria. While emphasising that the Entrepreneurship program, which the university started in 2007, created a paradigm shift that has over the years shaped the decision of Nigerian universities towards producing industry-relevant and future-ready graduates.
The workshop featured 3 presentations. Dr. Angela Idonije, the director of academic planning, presented a paper titled “Merger of the NUC 70% and IUO 30%,” while the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Raphael Adeghe, Ph.D., FCTI, and Professor Deborah Odejimi, the Dean, IUO School of Post-Graduate Studies & Research, jointly presented a paper titled “Using a variety of pedagogues beyond the lecture in delivering the CCMAS,” and the Director of ICT, Dr. Raphael Asibor, gave the final presentation titled “Effective use of technology for implementing the CCMAS.“
The workshop, which was attended by the provost, deans, directors, heads of departments, and other academic staff, featured a question-and-answer section.
