Biography

A three-time Head of Department of English and Literary Studies and formerly Sub-Dean of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, Clement Oshogwe Mamudu obtained the PhD degree in English from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. He has also been a Research Fellow at the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica, as well as a Center for International Programs Abroad (CIPA) Scholar and Doctoral Fellow (as an exchange doctoral student) at Emory University in Atlanta Georgia, United States of America. He has also been a University of Cape Town Scholar. His current research borders on the nature of the postcolonial African city as represented in fiction where he brings perspectives from urban studies into conversation with literary representations of the postcolonial African city in contemporary Nigerian fiction to create a nuanced synthesis of postcolonial literary studies and urban scholarship. Dr. Mamudu has attended and read papers at several local and international conferences, colloquiums and seminars. He has published creative and critical works in reputable books and learned journals. He is also a proven sportsman and sports administrator. A proven karateka and karate instructor, Sensei Mamudu holds the third dan (Sandan) Black Belt in Shotokan Karate. He was the National Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Karate Association between 2005 and 2009. He currently sits on the Association’s governing board known as the National Board of Technical Instructors. Clement is also a member of the Nigerian (Football) Referees Association. He has officiated at the highest level of Nigerian football and now serves as a Referees’ Assessor for the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF). He is a member of Rotary International and is presently affiliated vide Mushin Metropolitan Club, Lagos.Dr. Clement Mamudu is married with a beautiful daughter.
