Engr. Dr. Perpetual Oby Obeta, is a seasoned petroleum engineering academic, researcher, and industry-engaged professional with over a decade of experience in teaching, research, and leadership. She currently serves as a Lecturer I and Acting Head of Department in the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at Igbinedion University, Okada, where she is actively involved in curriculum development, student mentorship, and innovative research initiatives . Her academic background spans a PhD in Drilling and Enhanced Oil Recovery, supported by a strong foundation in petroleum engineering at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Her research interests are centered on drilling engineering, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), green surfactant development, and sustainable oilfield chemical applications. She has made notable contributions in the development of environmentally friendly surfactants derived from local plant seeds, positioning her work at the intersection of sustainability and petroleum production optimization. Her ongoing research also explores wellbore cleaning efficiency and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technologies as pathways toward achieving net-zero energy goals .
Engr. Obeta’s achievements reflect both academic excellence and impactful leadership. She has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and conference papers, including contributions to international platforms such as the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). She is a recipient of the World Bank Institute Scholarship for her doctoral studies and has earned several awards recognizing her leadership, service, and academic distinction. Notably, she has successfully mentored students to win international SPE awards and competitions, demonstrating her commitment to capacity building and professional development .
Currently, she combines her academic responsibilities with strategic professional leadership roles, including Chairman of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Benin Chapter. In this role, she drives initiatives focused on mentorship, gender inclusion in engineering, and industry collaboration, further amplifying her impact across academia and the engineering profession.
