Associate Professor Olusoji David POPOOLA is a Professor of Applied Social Psychology with specialization in Health Psychology, and Gender Studies. He has published over 30 papers in national and international Journals and supervised over 50 Undergraduates, Masters and Doctoral students. He recently won two research grants for his university and submitted Proposals for many other calls.He had to his educational credit: National Certificate in Education (NCE) in Agricultural Science Education (1986); Bsc. Psychology (1996), MSc Developmental Psychology (1998) and PhD in Social & Personality Psychology (2011) from University of Ibadan and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Obafemi Awolowo University Ile- Ife, Nigeria. As an academic, Dr. POPOOLA joined the service of Igbinedion University Okada in 2014 in Lecturer 2 position, moved to the position of Lecturer 1 in 2016, and rose to the position of Senior Lecturer in 2019, and to Associate Professor in 2022.
Associate Professor Popola’s work experience spanned over two decades across public and private sectors. In the public sector, he started his teaching career with the Oyo state Ministry of Education in 1980 and worked at both primary and secondary schools till 1983 when he went for further studies. He came back to work with the same ministry of education between 1990 and 1992 after which he began his career in the private sector.
He made his debut in the Publishing industry where he worked with Longman Nigeria Plc (now Learn Africa) between 1992 and 2002. He worked as the General Manager in University Bookshop limited- University of Ibadan between 2002 and 2011; Managing Director Obafemi Awolowo University between 2011 to 2012; Operations Manager Federal University of Technology Akure between 2012 and 2014; and as Director Igbinedion University Bookshop between 2014 to 2022.
He has occupied many administrative positions and served in many capacities such as: Head of Department of Sociology and Anthropology (2015 – 2019), Acting Dean, College of Arts and Social Sciences (2015), Sub – Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies and Research (2016 – 2020), Acting Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies and Research (2016), Postgraduate Program Coordinator, College of Arts and Social Sciences (2016 – 2022) and a host of others.
Dr. POPOOLA has served on a number of Senate Committees such as; Ceremonial Committee – University of Ibadan (2008 -2011), Council Committee on Consultancy Services resuscitation, University of Ibadan (2010 -2011), Finance & Fund-Raising subcommittee for 24th NUGA, Games, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife (2011 – 2012), Senate Committee on Duplication of Courses – Igbinedion University Okada – (2018), Senate Committee on Missing Result in College of Law (2018), Research and Ethics Committee: Igbinedion University Okada (2015 – Date), Senate Committee on Creation of Additional Parking Slots(2019), Senate Committee on Book Policy, Igbinedion University Okada 2020 – Date), Senate Committee on Book Policy, Igbinedion University Okada (2020 – Date), Local Orgazing Committee – Esama Football Tournament for the 25th Founders Day Anniversary Igbinedion University Okada.
