Professor Sunday Joel Josiah, Ph.D., is a Professor of Biochemistry specializing in Ethnopharmacology and Toxicology at Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Nigeria. His research focuses on the scientific investigation of medicinal plants, particularly the identification of bioactive compounds and the evaluation of their toxicological safety for therapeutic use.
He obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and his M.Sc. in Biochemistry from University of Ibadan. He later earned his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Igbinedion University, where he has built a distinguished academic career in teaching, research, and academic leadership.
Professor Josiah has published over fifty peer-reviewed articles in reputable national and international journals and has presented his research at several academic conferences. His work contributes significantly to the global discourse on natural product research, toxicological safety, and the integration of traditional medicinal knowledge into modern healthcare systems.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology, the Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and the West African Society of Toxicology.
In addition to his research and teaching contributions, Professor Josiah has held key leadership positions at Igbinedion University, including Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences (2013–2023), and currently serves as Programme Director of the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB). His scholarly work aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those promoting global health, scientific innovation, and sustainable healthcare solutions
