The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye recently made a tour of the University’s study facilities located in Benin City on Tuesday 14th July 2018 as the first and major tour of University resources since he assumed office.
His first port of call was the Part-Time Study Centre on Sapele Road. The Vice-Chancellor who was accompanied by all Principal Officers of the University was taken round the facility by the Director of Part-Time program Dr. David Omobuare.
The Vice-Chancellor while inspecting the classrooms and the other facilities at the centre commended the Director of the Centre for the work done so far. The Director informed the VC that the money spent to improve the centre was basically from the dues and earnings made from the Centre for Entrepreneurship of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor thereafter made some suggestions on better ways to ultilize and manage the space of the centre, including running of JUPEB programme and temporarily, cordoning off a portion of the facility that are not in use to improve on the aesthetics and safety of resources at the centre.
The Vice-Chancellor’s entourage later moved to the University Liaison Office on Airport Road to visit the Benin Film Academy situated in the building. On arrival, the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage was received by the Admin Officer at the Benin Film Academy Mr. Osas Earlience who took the VC and others on a guided tour of the training facilities in the Centre. The VC was shown the class room, the photography room, the costume room and offices within the building.
In his interaction with the Admin Officer, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged the centre to establish linkages with institutions abroad for exchange programmes and also to prospect more avenues for outreach programs.
In his response, the Admin Officer expressed regret that the Director of the centre, Mr. Lancelot Imaseun was out of the country at the moment. He assured the VC that effort are already ongoing with the British Film Academy for partnership and student exchange program. He also showed the VC banners of previous Masterclass that the Centre has held with leading Nollywood and International movie stars.
The VC commended the center for their ingenuity and commitment in making a difference in the society. The visit ended with a group photograph.
