Prof. Izevbuwa Osaretin George is a distinguished Professor of Law and the current Dean of the College of Law, Igbinedion University Okada. He is a Nigerian by nationality, born on November 26, 1967, in Benin City, Edo State. He hails from Oredo Local Government Area and is a Christian. Prof. George is married and blessed with three children. His permanent home address is No. 1, Festus Agbonifo Street (Caribbean Island), Iyekogba Housing Estate, G.R.A., Benin City. Prof. George is an accomplished legal scholar with core research interests in Criminal Law and the Administration of Criminal Justice. Over the years, he has made significant academic and professional contributions to legal education, legal practice, and community development. In recognition of his academic excellence and leadership, he was appointed Professor of Law in 2018 and has since continued to provide visionary leadership as the Dean of the College of Law.
He has been a Member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch since 1993, where he also served as Financial Secretary between 1997 and 1999. Prof. George is a Notary Public of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, appointed in 2014, and a member of the Nigerian Association of Law Teachers, as well as the Association of Professional Negotiators and Mediators. His professional experience further includes service as Legal Adviser to the Legislative Arm of Oredo Local Government and other civic institutions. Beyond academia and legal practice, Prof. George has demonstrated exceptional commitment to community service and leadership, particularly through Rotary International. He has served in several capacities including Secretary, President-Elect, and President of the Rotary Club of Uselu, as well as Director of Community Service, Director of Administration, and Director of Public Relations. He also participated in the Rotary International Group Study Exchange Programme to the United States in 2003 as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar. His leadership roles extended to serving as Vice Chairman of the Karate Board, Edo State Sports Council, and as a Part-time Director on the Management Committee of Bendel Brewery Limited. Prof. George’s contributions to Igbinedion University Okada and the legal profession have earned him numerous awards and recognitions. These include awards as a Pioneer Lecturer and Foundation Member of Staff of the College of Law, a Special Honour as a Foundation Staff of the University, and the Students’ Award for Best Lecturer (2012/2013). He has also received the Rotarian of the Year Award, the Simple Mind Club Merit Award, and the Entrepreneurship Award for Dispute Litigation and Community Development in Nigeria from the African Chamber of Commerce, USA. In 2021, he was honoured as a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration, appointed Orator of Igbinedion University Okada, and received the Award of Excellence in the College of Law.
In addition to his academic and professional engagements, Prof. George is a Knight of the Christ Apostolic Church of God Mission International and has served in various leadership and advisory roles across professional, religious, and community organizations. He remains an influential figure in legal education, mentorship, and institutional development at Igbinedion University Okada and beyond.
