I heartily welcome you to Oba Okunade Sijuade College of Health Sciences, Igbinedion University Okada. Our vision in the College of Health Sciences is to produce medical and paramedical graduates who are vastly competent, worthy in character and learning, and skilled enough to contribute immensely and meaningfully to the economy and social wellbeing of our society.
The College was founded in the year 1999 and is housed in the Hospital Campus of Igbinedion University, Okada. It is made up of two schools; the School of Basic Medical Sciences and the School of Clinical Medicine with the Provost as the Administrative Head of the College and a Dean oversees each of the schools.
The school of Basic Medical Sciences consist of four degree awarding Departments namely; Pre-clinical medicine, Department of Anatomy (B.Sc.), Department of Physiology (B.Sc.) and Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences (B.MLS). The Pre-clinical Medicine programme is a segment of the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme. It is of three (3) semesters duration taking effect from 200level for candidates who were successful in 100level examination, and had attained a CGPA of 4.0 and above and therefore made the Merit list.
Direct entry candidates who have first degree in Anatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Nursing, and other Biomedical Sciences are also considered.
The School of Basic Medical Sciences has over 25 lecturers spanning the departments and made up of Professors, Associate Professors, Senior Lecturers, and Lecturers. Over the years, the school have trained undergraduates with knowledge and research skills required to enhance employability in Hospitals, Schools, Laboratories and industries globally.
The School of Clinical Medicine is headed by a Dean as well and houses several departments including the Departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Community Medicine, Laboratory Medicine, Medical Microbiology, Haematology, Chemical Pathology, Histopathology, Pharmacology, Radiology Anaesthesiology, and Nursing etc.
The school has over 50 teaching staff, including Consultants, Professors and other Lecturers. Since inception, the School has graduated well over 1200 Medical Doctors who are gainfully employed and making great waves all over the world.
