Biography

Engr. Perpetual Oby Obeta is a Petroleum Engineering lecturer with a decade of invaluable teaching experience, trainings and research innovations. She has authored/co-authored papers in high impact journals. Oby holds a bachelors’ degree and a masters’ degree in Petroleum Engineering and currently a doctorate student in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering in University of Port Harcourt. She is former Head of Department, Petroleum Engineering, Igbinedion University Okada. Her research interest spans across Drilling and Completion Engineering, Enhanced Oil Recovery and Sustainable Oilfield Chemicals.

Her successful extraction and modelling of natural surfactants from indigenous plants and use for cement bonding enhancement has increased wellbore integrity and oil productivity. Her study has found relevance as a means of decarbonizing the environment, promoting sustainability strategies that align with the Nigerian local content policy as well as encourages robust participation of local technologies in global oil and gas industry. Her business model has created job opportunities, initiated public acceptance and infrastructural development for Nigerians who are engaged in mass production of bio-materials.

Obeta has incorporated innovative teaching methods in petroleum education, through development of new courses that not only address global concerns, but provide new learning opportunities. She has advanced skills in software applications, use of advanced technologies in classroom management, and provides unique approaches to hands-on learning experiences for students.

She has collaborated with industry professionals and organizations such as Association of Professional Women Engineers (APWEN), Organization for Women in Science and Development (OWSD), The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), The Nigerian Institution of Environmental Engineers (NIEE), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) contributing her expertise to real-world drilling and completion projects through her journal paper publications, internships, volunteerism, partnerships, consulting roles, and participation in conferences.

She is happily married with 3 kids.
