CODET’s Engineering Excellence Shines at South-South Projects Competition

The 7th edition of the Engineering Students Projects Competition for the south-south zone, organized by the Committee of Deans of Engineering and Technology of Nigerian Universities (CODET), was an event to remember. Hosted by Igbinedion University, Okada, the competition brought together brilliant minds from institutions such as Delta State University, Abraka, and University of Benin, Benin City.

The competition, held on June 20th, 2024, showcased a total of five projects across various categories. With judges from esteemed institutions like the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Benin Branch, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria Edo-Delta office in Benin City, and the Nigerian Institute of Oil Palm Research (NIFOR), the bar was set high for the participating teams.

In a display of innovation and technical prowess, Igbinedion University emerged as the undisputed champion in both project categories. Their project titled “The Design and Implementation of an Automated Home Electrical System” secured victory in the single project category, outscoring University of Benin with a remarkable average score of 74.3% to 65.7% with the project “SkypeAI: Generative Artificial Intelligence Aimed at Revolutionizing Education.”

In the group project category, Igbinedion University continued their winning streak with the project “Development of a Downdraft Gasification Plant,” earning an impressive average score of 83.3%. University of Benin’s project “Ratatouille the Kitchen Assistant” put up a good fight but fell short with an average of 63.7%.

With this outstanding performance, Igbinedion University, Okada, will proudly represent the south-south zone in the upcoming national competition, showcasing the excellence and ingenuity fostered by CODET. The projects presented not only demonstrated technical expertise but also a deep commitment to addressing real-world challenges through engineering solutions.

CODET’s dedication to promoting engineering excellence and fostering innovation among Nigerian university students was evident throughout the competition, setting a high standard for future events in the field.
