



Nigeria’s Premier Private University, Igbinedion University, Okada, over the past weekend welcomed Freshmen into her campus and on Monday, 28th September 2026, commenced her 28th Orientation and One-Stop-Shop Registration Programme for newly admitted students of the 2026/2027 academic session. The five-day event, holding at the University Main Campus, runs until Friday, 2nd October 2026, with daily sessions beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Welcoming the freshmen, The Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye PhD, FAS, described IUO as not just Nigeria’s premier private university but also as a reputable institution offering fully accredited courses by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies. He highlighted the institution’s growing focus on AI-enabled learning, innovation hubs and the development of industry-relevant skills.
Prof. Ezemonye reaffirmed the University’s zero-tolerance policy on bullying, harassment, cultism, examination misconduct, drug abuse and cybercrime. He also urged students to prioritise their mental health and take full advantage of the counselling, chaplaincy and other support services available on campus.
Also speaking at the event, the registrar, Mr. Ahola Orgeh reminded the new students that admission represents both an opportunity and a responsibility. He encouraged them to attend lectures regularly, manage their time effectively and thoroughly study the Student Handbook, stressing that ignorance of University regulations is no defence.
He warned that offences such as plagiarism, impersonation and falsification of records attract severe sanctions. Orgeh further advised students to participate actively in clubs, sports and leadership programmes, obey hostel and security rules, and show respect for cultural and religious diversity.
Day one also featured presentations by the University Bursar, Sir. Dr. Emmanuel E. Imafidon KSC who gave the new students a breakdown of their expected financial obligations with regards to fee payment and the University Librarian Prof. Lucky T. Abdulsalami who spoke on the expected tenets of the use of the University Library and the available repository that it holds.
A career guidance session on navigating career paths and achieving academic success through digital literacy tools was delivered by the Head of Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Josephine Obiajulu Omoruyi and a staff of the University Library, Mr. Vincent Osamuyimen Ekhaguosa after which students visited the University Library.
On Tuesday, 29th September, the programme continued with a health talk titled “Your Health is in Your Hands” by Dr Abubakar Gagarawa Ya’u, the Chief Medical Director of the Igbinedion University Teaching Hospital (IUTH). The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Charles Ochem, addressed the students, while Dr (Mrs) Angela O. Idonije, Director of Academic Planning, gave an inspirational talk on academic excellence. Briefs from the Guidance and Counselling Services and the ICT Unit by the ICT director, Mr. Fortune Amoforitse followed.
College based orientation sessions began on Wednesday, 30th September, and will continue through Friday, 2nd October, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Deans of the various colleges would conduct the specialised programmes for their respective students.
