The Chancellor and founder of Nigeria’s Premier Private University, Igbinedion University Okada, Sir. Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion – Esama of Benin Kingdom, marked his 92nd birthday with a heartfelt thanksgiving celebration held on Sunday, 13th September 2026, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Sapele Road, Benin City.

Surrounded by family, friends, and well-wishers, the gathering was filled with gratitude under the inspiring theme “I am because he is.” The occasion reflected the deep appreciation of those whose lives and opportunities have been shaped by the Esama’s visionary leadership, philanthropy, and enduring legacy.

Among the distinguished attendees were the Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, PhD, FAS, accompanied by the principal officers of the university and members of staff. Their presence underscored the strong bond between the celebrant and the institution he founded, as the university community joined in thanksgiving for his 92 years of impactful service to education and humanity.
