The Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), Benin Chapter, through its Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) Collegiate Chapter, in collaboration with the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students’ Association (NUESA), IUO Chapter, successfully convened the first edition of its capacity-building initiative entitled “More Than Academics: Building a Balanced Student Life (Series 1.0)”.
The programme held at the Smart Board Room, Postgraduate Building (SPE Building), Igbinedion University, Main Campus, Okada.
The session was designed to provide engineering undergraduates with structured guidance on achieving a sustainable balance between academic excellence and essential dimensions of personal and professional development. The agenda encompassed critical themes including entrepreneurship, leadership competencies, personal wellbeing, holistic growth, and long-term career preparedness.
The event featured formal presentations delivered by a distinguished panel of invited resource persons, followed by an interactive question-and-answer segment that facilitated substantive engagement between the panellists and student participants.
In recognition of their insightful contributions and dedication to mentoring future engineering professionals, Certificates of Appreciation were formally presented to all panellists at the close of the programme.
The workshop recorded strong attendance from students across the Faculty of Engineering and was widely regarded as highly instructive and impactful. Feedback from participants underscored the value of the discussions in promoting comprehensive student development and enhancing readiness for professional practice.
This inaugural programme forms part of an anticipated ongoing series through which the APWEN IUO Collegiate Chapter—formally supported by the university administration and inaugurated in late 2025—aims to deliver sustained, high-quality developmental interventions in partnership with student professional associations such as NUESA.
The initiative reaffirms APWEN’s institutional commitment to advancing engineering education, gender inclusion in the profession, and the cultivation of well-rounded, future-ready graduates.
