Igbinedion University Okada Hosts Renowned Japanese Toxicology and Ecotoxicology Professor for Collaborative Research
Igbinedion University Okada on Monday 15th January, welcomed esteemed Japanese academic, Professor Mayumi Ishizuka, along with her research team from Hakkaido University, Japan.
The visit, described by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye PhD, FAS, as a significant step towards advancing the institution’s Industry-Academia initiative, marks a pivotal moment for collaborative research and development.
Professor Mayumi Ishizuka, a distinguished figure in international research on environmental pollution and its associated toxicity, has been instrumental in advancing scientific knowledge in the African region. Her extensive involvement in expert committees and international research initiatives has contributed significantly to the fields of toxicology, environmental health and safety, and the broader concept of One Health.
The event featured an interactive session on research and development, during which Professor Shota Nakayama from Hakkaido University emphasised the interdisciplinary nature of his research, particularly the “One Health” concept. This approach underscores the interconnected health of ecosystems and communities, reflecting a broader view of ecotoxicology.
Expressing his optimism about the partnership, Professor Ezemonye highlighted the potential for further reinforcing Igbinedion University Okada’s position as a leader in research and development among tertiary institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The highlight of the event was the signing of an expression of interest in collaboration between the research teams from Hakkaido University, Japan, and Igbinedion University, Okada, marking the beginning of a promising research partnership. This collaboration is expected to further advance scientific knowledge and policy in the fields of toxicology, environmental health, and One Health, both nationally and internationally.
