Igbinedion University SPE Student Chapter Shines: Wins Prestigious 2025 Regional Award for Community Involvement

Igbinedion University — In a remarkable achievement, the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter at Igbinedion University has been awarded the prestigious 2025 Regional Outstanding Student Chapter Award for Africa, specifically recognizing its exceptional commitment to community development.

This esteemed recognition from SPE International highlights student chapters that demonstrate outstanding dedication to societal impact, outreach, and the promotion of energy education beyond traditional classroom settings. The Igbinedion University chapter distinguished itself through various innovative, community-driven projects and a strong volunteer spirit.

Throughout the 2024/2025 academic year, the chapter spearheaded several transformative initiatives, including the ENERGY4ME program in local secondary schools aimed at educating students about sustainable energy and career opportunities in Petroleum Engineering. Other notable projects included OPERATION PAINT A CLASSROOM, the ECO-DRIVE cleanup of the Okada market town hall, PAD A CHILD, and weekly fitness activities.

“This recognition reflects the dedication and passion of our student members, alongside the invaluable guidance from our faculty advisors and unwavering support from the university,” stated Emmanuel Ayomide Adeleye, the 2024/2025 President of SPE-IUO. He emphasized that through these activities, the chapter has empowered fellow students academically and professionally while elevating the university’s profile on a global stage.

The chapter extends sincere gratitude to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, faculty advisor Engr. Mrs. Oby P. Obeta, and all staff members for their encouragement and support.
