Igbinedion University students made history at the 13th Nigerian International Tertiary Institutions Model United Nations (NITIMUN) Conference 2024, held from October 28 to November 2. The conference, themed “Preventing Youths Involvement in Crime, Violence, and Drug Abuse,” brought together talented students from renowned tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
The University’s team of eight students, carefully selected through a rigorous internal process, emerged as overall winners, securing the Best School Delegation Award. Igbinedion University stood out for exceptional performance, securing the Best School Delegation Award and the Best Cultural Performance Award. Individual achievements included Zinnat Olaleye (Best Female Delegate and Best Cultural Attire), Theo Emeubani (2nd Best Male Delegate), and Chelsea Ike (3rd Best Female Delegate).
Igbinedion University’s outstanding performance underscored its commitment to excellence, enhancing its reputation in academic, cultural, and diplomatic circles. The students demonstrated exceptional leadership, cultural awareness, and dedication, bringing great honour to the university.
The conference provided numerous benefits to participants, including a cooperative environment, multicultural learning experiences, personal development, and networking opportunities. Igbinedion University’s students actively participated in committee sessions, submitting opening speeches and emerging with the best opening speech.
Zinnat Olaleye and Chelsea Ike were elected as President of the General Assembly and Secretary-General of the United Nations, respectively, after passing required exams and meeting all other requirements. This recognition grants them automatic full sponsorship for the NITIMUN Conference 2025.
