Breaking the Balance: IUO’s Amazon Hostel Hosts Groundbreaking Seminar on Health, Habits, and Harmony

The first-ever Amazon Hostel Seminar, themed “Becoming Your Best Self: Health and Habits,” held recently at the crown estate campus, at Igbinedion University Okada (IUO), drawing 227 enthusiastic student participants and marking a significant step in promoting holistic well-being among female hostel residents.

Organized by the hostel’s Guidance Counsellor, Miss Omonye J. Oseghale, the event was held in strong collaboration with the Hall Warden Dr. (Mrs.) Angela Idonije, Assistant Hall Warden Dr. Ume O. Nwabugwu, and Hall Administrator Mrs. Susan Popoola. The seminar aimed to equip female students with essential knowledge on personal development, academic balance, and health management.

Two distinguished academics delivered the keynote presentations. Prof. (Mrs.) Blessing Ose Oligbi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics and Research) — a respected professor of Public Sector and Development Economics — spoke on “Balancing Books and Life: Managing Academics, Social Life, and Self-Care.” She stressed the critical need for equilibrium between scholarly demands, interpersonal relationships, and individual wellness.

Attendees received actionable advice on time management techniques, setting realistic goals, prioritization skills, and building disciplined routines that foster both scholastic achievement and lasting personal fulfillment.

Another speaker at the event Prof. (Mrs.) Uche Christina Osimen-Eboziegbe, a Professor of Anatomy and Hall Warden of Serena Hostel, spoke on the topic; “Understanding Your Body: Menstrual Health, Hygiene, and Self-Care Basics.” Her session provided in-depth education on menstrual care practices, personal hygiene standards, and healthy habits during menstruation.

She empowered participants by addressing self-care, dignity, emotional health, and the ability to identify typical issues concerning bodily signals, including guidance on when professional medical consultation is advisable.

The well-attended program received positive feedback for its engaging, informative content and practical focus, contributing meaningfully to students’ character growth, confidence, and overall well-being within the Amazon Hostel community and beyond.

Organizers described the seminar as a resounding success, highlighting its role in nurturing informed, empowered young women prepared to thrive academically and personally. This inaugural event sets a promising precedent for future initiatives supporting student health and development at the institution.
