Professor Yakubu Aboki Ochefu is a distinguished academic, administrator, and professor of Economic History and Development Studies. He is the current President-General of Ochetoha K’Idoma, the apex socio-cultural organisation for the Idoma nation, following his election in June 2025. He previously served as the Secretary-General of the
Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) from 2019 to 2024, where he was a prominent voice for university reform and innovation. His administrative career is highlighted by his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of Kwararafa University, Wukari (2012–2017) and various leadership roles at Benue State University, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor. He is an alumnus of the University of Calabar, where he earned his PhD, and the University of Birmingham, UK. Beyond academia, he is a tech-savvy consultant who has worked with international agencies like the World Bank and the UNDP on information systems and development projects. A Fellow of the Historical Society of Nigeria and the Nigerian Academy of Letters, Professor Ochefu has published extensively on African economic history and digitalization. He is also deeply involved in alumni relations, serving as the National President of the University of Calabar Alumni Association and Chairman of the Conference of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities (CAANU). He is a certified Judo coach and a traditional title holder, continuing a legacy of public service as the son of the late Colonel Anthony Aboki Ochefu.
