IUO Celebrates 25 Years of Innovation: Unveiling of Petrol Minibus Steals the Show

In a grand display of creativity and academic excellence, Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) marked its 25th Anniversary Innovation Day with a remarkable celebration of innovation and research prowess. The event, held at the University’s Central Library in Okada, coincided with the prestigious institution’s 25th year as Nigeria’s first private university, established on May 10, 1999.

The Vice-Chancellor of IUO, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, emphasized the importance of innovation as the cornerstone of the university’s ethos, driving research endeavors and inspiring a future-ready generation of students. The event aimed to showcase the research and innovation adventures of IUO, providing a platform for individuals and corporate bodies to exhibit their groundbreaking products and ideas.

A highlight of the day was the unveiling of an innovative creation at the Exhibition Stands – the IUO Petrol Minibus, designed and developed by the College of Engineering for project use. Prof. Ezemonye revealed that the ongoing project includes the design and development of an electric minibus, scheduled for completion by the end of the next year.

Additionally, the Innovation Day featured the IUO Oil Palm Processing Mill, a collaborative project between the Central Bank of Nigeria and IUO, set to be formally commissioned. This Processing Mill boasts an impressive capacity to process Palm Oil at a rate of 2 tons per hour, with provisions for future expansion.

The event’s Guest Speaker, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewale, emphasized the continuous nature of innovation, labeling it as the driving force of progress and excellence. He praised IUO’s commitment to academic excellence and innovation, underscoring the university’s dedication to creating an environment where innovation can flourish.

In his closing remarks, Prof. Ezemonye highlighted the importance of addressing global challenges through innovation and collaboration. The successful organization of the Innovation Day was attributed to the visionary leadership of the Founder and Chancellor, His Excellency Chief Dr. Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion CFR, and the guidance of the university’s management under Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye.
