DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEEERING, IGBINEDION UNIVERSITY OKADA.

The Civil Engineering programme at Igbinedion University Okada, Edo State, Nigeria began in September, 2002 with competent and qualified lecturers. The programme is fully accredited by COREN and NUC.  It has produced many highly skilled graduates who are working both in the public and private sectors, home and abroad. Some are entrepreneurs running their engineering or other related companies. Many graduates also, have pursued their post graduate studies both within and outside the country, which is in line with the philosophy of the department to produce graduates with high academic standards, adequate practical background, self-employable and of immediate value to industry and the nation at large. 

Departmental Objectives

The objectives of the Civil Engineering Programme at Igbinedion University Okada are to train Civil Engineering students with the requisite knowledge to

        i. Design engineering projects, systems and supervise the construction with maximum standard and quality control.

       ii. Develop the necessary skills, creative ability, attitudes and expertise consistent with engineering design, communication and construction of engineering works and projects.

      iii. Adapt and improve on exogenous technology in order to enhance construction techniques and the proper study and use of local raw materials.

      iv. Inculcate a maintenance culture in the use of engineering artifacts and a responsible attitude towards demands made by the practice of engineering and risk implications of design and construction.

      v. Be able to exercise original thought and best professional judgment in handling engineering projects, design and construction.

A department that advances in engineering and technology research and its graduates are the most sought-after engineers by all employers of labour, post-graduate schools and research institutes.

 Departmental Mission

The departmental mission is to produce qualified and competent Civil Engineers in many specialized areas that will continue to support the development of infrastructure in Nigeria and the wide world.

Civil Engineering Post Graduate Programme

The post-graduate programme available in the Civil Engineering Department, Igbinedion University, Okada includes, a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), Master of Engineering (M. Eng.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in the following options: Water Resources and Environmental, Highway and Transportation, Structural and Geotechnical Engineering

Basic Admission Requirements for Civil Engineering Programme at Igbinedion University

Candidates seeking 100L admission into the Civil Engineering programme leading to the Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Degree, should possess passes at the credit level or higher in SSCE, NECO or GCE ‘O’ Level in five subjects, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and additional subsidiary subjects, plus an acceptable pass in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). National Diploma certificates (ND and HND) from approved Colleges of Technologies or Polytechnics with a minimum grade of upper credit level are eligible for admission to 200l and 300l respectively.  Other admission enquiries such as university inter-transfer, post graduate programme can be obtained from the institution.
